Emarati Culture

     In this photo essay I collected pictures with my camera and my phone,this pictures related to my uncle from 50 years he born in 1947 , he died from 25 years but his wife collect his things and she build museum in her farm and she put all the things there all the pictures about his life and the Emarati traditional and culture.

this is kind of smoking like a cigarette they use it in the past,we called it "MDWAK" in Arabic,Nowadays we have a lot of men they use it also.and we have many of shops they sales this,they put like a herb and nicotine in this pipe then they burn this nicotine.this pipe belong to my uncle he was use it from 40 years also as we can see in the picture he writes his name in his pipe it makes by wood.

this watches related to my uncle Mohammed he was use this watches when he go out also for his work he buy the watches from different brands such as:concord, omega , westend and Rolex with expensive price till now some of people asked my uncle wife to buy the watches from her the same price and double but she refused the offer because she thinks this watches remind her of her husband and the happy days,and she feels happy when she saw the watches because one of this watches she buy it for him in their wedding.

 As we can see here this eyeglass look very old and very old design with the cover for the eyeglass to keep the eyeglass clean he was wearing this eyeglass before 20 years he was around 40 years old.although the design of the eyeglass it is very old but from 2 years all the brands re industry the same design of this eyeglass and a lot of people now wearing like this eyeglass it is all about the old fashion comes again.

   I found this camera in her museum "Yashica 635" the name of this camera,she told me when he was traveled he took this camera with him to take pictures but mostly he was captures images of birds because he likes the birds ,also he was took pictures of his family.this is the most camera he was liked ,and when I asked her about the pictures of this camera she told me she don't have the pictures it is with his brother now.

In past every house in UAE should have this cooking pots we used this for the food and water , my uncle was used this cooking pots with his family in breakfast,lunch and dinner,she collect the cooking pots and put it on the wood table in the museum ,In the back of the picture we can see like a circle carpet they use it to put the food on it and they set on the floor around the circle carpet with the family and eating the food.

Photo is about the first football team player of the UAE. Football game was first introduced by British soldiers and from the youth men who they are returning back from their studies aboard.  In past time, they played on the sand and rough place as there is no stadium. The First union was established in 1971 and joined to the international federal in 1972. Football is begun to be the most popular sport in the UAE which all men like to watch matches.

This is the first TV he buy it for his house it was black and white color and and showed all the channels only the locals channels and it was and clear at all they faced difficult problems with the TV when they open it,in that time there was only two local channels Abu Dhabi and Dubai and both of them closed @ 12 they showed only black screen or screen with colorful without any sound but after some times they start to put the holy Quran from 12 midnight till morning.

Some of the old cameras with the films they can take pictures from the camera ,there are many kinds and types of films they can put it in the camera and take pictures without the films they can not have a pictures.

also there is telescopes he was use it when he was in Pakistan for hunting he can see from the telescope the falcons and the other birds and it was helping him to hunt and catch the birds because he can see clearly from the telescope.

My uncle's wife she was doing "Burgaa" for the women's in past,in our culture and traditional all the women's should wear burgaa it means the women's cover their faces front the men because it is not allowed to men to see the women's face,she use wool yarn to make it,when the women's wear burgaa she cover half of her face the only part she leave it without cover in burgaa the eyes and the mouths,she keep some of this to her as a memory.

“Dehn Al Oud” is   black or brown   liquid   with a nice smell in small bottles. The old traders “Al RAHALA”   used to get this from India and it was very rare to have it at that time because it was very expensive. “Dehn Al Oud” is the traditional perfume. Only on occasions, people used it as weddings. There was a special way of using “Dehn Al Oud”   is to put little drops in your fingers and then wipe it behind your ears.

  It’s a Tea pot for making tea and coffee. It is made from silver and iron. At the evening, people gather around the fire on the desert and making traditional coffee (Arabic coffee) and telling poet. Nowadays people use a new technology for making the coffees and tea they forgot about our history and our ways to make it .It’s hard to find “Al Qurri” in any please with the same quality as before so it’s good if we keep our traditional things without losing our past and history.

Books &Education

Books in the past was really a rare thing to have because, the education was not important and we didn’t have schools in the past. People just learned” Quraan “and memories it. But after we discover the pearls then they bring teachers especially from Egypt because it was the source of knowledge .The first school was established in 1907 in Sharjah . In the past we didn’t have library   because we depend mostly on what we get from the Egyptians teachers and we use to write what they have because, the printers was not discovered yet .

The first flag of the UAE was red plain with bar as the photo is shown.  It has been used on the trading boats to be recognized from other boats and friends to protect their route trade from board as India.  After the union, the flag has been changed to be four colors. The First official flag is flown in 1971.

In 1988 he had vehicle ownership it is like the note book ,orange color from the government, they write all the information about the person who drive the vehicle and about the car in details, they write the name,age and date of birth also they write the name of the car ,color ,number and date,for the safety and privacy.

they put the logo of the Dubai police and they let you sign to make sure you will drive this car and every two weeks you should go to the police to renewal it.

The perfume one of the most important thing in past and now,all the emarati people like the Arabic perfume in past they use rose water as a perfume,also they use "Dkoon" they burn it to make smoke with nice smell.

all the Arab especially in GCC they can not live without Arabic coffee,they drink Arabic coffee in the morning evening and also at night ,the first thing they bring when they have guests the Arabic coffee because it is mean welcome to our house.    

It is like a big plait from silver we use it in past for the lunch to put the rice and all the family meet and eat from the same plait together,she keep it in her farm,she use it every Friday when the all family meet,her sons and daughters,wehen I asked her from where you buy this plait?she told me there was a shop before 25 years near to the fish market when she go with her husband to buy fish she go to this shop to buy new things for the kitchen and it was around 5 Dhs.

This is my uncle shoes the side down of it makes buy iron it was very heavy I tried to wear it but I can't walk with it , he was wear it all the time he have only two , and if  it damage he fixed to wear it again .
when we see this picture its all about the simple old life,they can buy it from the shop with 2 Dhs but most of them make their shoes themselves and some of them make more than one to sale it and get money from it.

 this is the phones and mobiles phones the first mobile phone in UAE it is called "Anees" it comes with a battery and charge and sim card from Etisalat the price was around 500 Dhs she told me , and the other phone it was for the house ,In past it was not allowed to women's to have mobile that's why the husband take this phone and keep it at home to contact with his wife.
